With the world grappling with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, international travel faced unprecedented challenges. Thailand, like many countries, introduced a series of stringent entry requirements and processes to curb the spread of the virus. As of October 1, 2022, Thailand removed all COVID-19 entry requirements. Although airlines might ask travelers to wear masks, within Thailand, wearing a mask, getting vaccinated, or having a negative test result is no longer mandatory. Despite the removal of certain regulations, travelers are advised to remain cautious and informed.
Do You Need COVID-19 Travel Insurance to Visit Thailand in 2023?

One of the key requirements introduced by the Thai government for visitors was the mandatory COVID-19 insurance plan. This insurance, specifically for foreigners, should cover the traveler for a minimum of $20,000. Typically, Thai policies offer coverage up to 750 thousand Thai baht. Additionally, visitors were also required to obtain a Thailand Pass QR code and a valid visa for entry.

To assist travelers, the MarketWatch Guides Team sought quotes from five leading providers of travel insurance in Thailand, particularly for a 35-year-old individual. It’s important to note that travel insurance for Thailand should ideally cover medical expenses. Before availing medical services, always ensure that the chosen hospital accepts your travel insurance and that the policy allows you to select the healthcare facility of your choice. Especially if travelers plan to venture off the beaten path, they might encounter areas where healthcare facilities are basic.

Previously, all visitors to Thailand had to secure a travel medical insurance policy that provided at least $100,000 USD coverage for COVID-19-related treatments and hospitalization. This mandate, however, has now been lifted. Yet, for peace of mind, many experts, including those from Forbes Advisor, continue to recommend securing a comprehensive travel insurance policy. Such coverage ensures that travelers can enjoy their visit to iconic sites like the Grand Palace in Bangkok without any worries.
